Your next iPhone might be “Made in Bangalore” starting April

Apple has proposed to commence initial manufacturing operations in Karnataka by end of April, 2017.

Apple has partnered with Taiwan’s Wistron Corp. to make iPhones in Bangalore, said Priyank Kharge, the Karnataka’s information technology minister.

Note that Apple India’s revenue in FY15-16 crossed $1Bn – i.e. a market which Apple can’t really ignore anymore.

Apple’s intentions to manufacture in Bengaluru will foster cutting edge technology eco system and supply chain development in the state, which are critical for India to compete Apple’s decision on initial manufacturing in Bengaluru has further enhanced the reputation of Bengaluru as the most preferred destination for foreign investment and further validation of the State Government Policies aimed at fostering manufacturing, innovation and investments in Karnataka.

We hope it brings down the price of iPhone in India.

The company has been in talks with the govt citing several tax holiday benefits etc.
